Daytime dreamer,
Sleeping all day
With the sun,
Safely hidden,
Deep
In a red gum hollow.
One moonlit night,
I came to see you
In your daytime,
Leaping and darting
Against the stars,
High amongst
Your juicy branches.
Late that night
I dreamed a dream,
Of guns and fire,
Foxes and chainsaws,
The smell of burning red gum,
Of dogs and blood
And fur and fear,
Next day
Was the day
I started planting trees.
May you dream dreams
Of a happy future,
My furry moonlight dancer,
Sleeping all day,
Hidden safely,
Deep
In a red gum hollow
